SuckleBusters Fresh Salsa Fixins Review

I love salsa, fresh, cooked, spicy, mild, it doesn't matter, I love them all.  I've even tried my hand at making salsa, with pretty good results.  The problem I find is that fresh salsa is either a mess to make, or expensive to buy, so I generally will buy a pre-made salsa in a can or jar.  When I took a look at Suckle Busters Fresh Salas Fixins I was intrigued and more than a little hopeful at the thought of being able to open a can of tomatoes, empty the packet and stir.  SuckleBusters Fresh Salsa Fixins claims to be just that.  SuckleBusters is based out of Coppell Tx, and their salsa fixins is just one of many products the have from seasonings to sauces, and everything in between.

Heat: 4peppers The package that I tried was labeled as hot, and I'm happy to say that it did not disappoint.  When made fresh, this salas has a nice kick to it, that may be a little hot for those with sensitive taste buds, but if you like a nice hot salsa, you'll be happy with the heat.  As I mentioned, the package I tested was the hot, but they also have a medium and mild mix as well.  This salsa has just the kind of kick I like to see from a hot salsa, without being overpowering or lingering too long, so for that I give it 4 chili's for heat.

Appearance:  One of the things I really liked about this was the packaging.  It's got a well designed logo, with plenty of visual elements to get you interested.  In addition to that they give you a couple of great recipes on the back as well as direction to make the salsa different ways.  Of the four provided (Restaurant style, Sweet, Mexican style, and Pico De Gallio), I tried a chunkier restaurant, and the Mexican (cooked) style easily following the directions on the package.  As far as appearance goes, I give SuckleBusters Fresh Salsa Fixins 4 stars.

Taste: One of the things that really intrigued me about this salsa mix was the prospect of being able to dump the contents in a bowl with a can of tomatoes, stir, and serve.  What I found was that the dried ingredients didn't soften as quickly as I would have liked.  I added in the 1/4 cup of water as recommended, but found it didn't soften as I'd liked.  I ended up putting it in the fridge for the night.  The next morning I decided to give it another shot and spooned some on my eggs.  Huge difference.  Letting it sit overnight gave it plenty of time to mix and came with a very good flavor.  I also heated some in a pan later on and found that to be equally delicious, though the heat also intensified the spice in the salsa make for an even hotter experience.  The flavor of SuckleBusters Fresh Salsa Fixins is bold and spicy and came across very nicely for me after it had plenty of time to sit and re-hydrate.  With the great flavor this is an excellent salsa, I didn't like the time it took to fully mix, but overall I'd recommend it to anyone who likes salsa, and give it a solid 3 stars.

Value:  A 1.4oz package of SuckleBusters Fresh Salsa Fixins mixes with a single 14oz can of tomatoes making about 14oz of salsa.  The package sells for $3.99, add in a can of tomatoes, and it's not much cheaper than buying a ready made jar.  I will note that it takes up a lot less shelf space, and will last for quite some time.  For a fair price I give it 3 Stars for value.

Overall:  Overall I think this is a good salsa at a decent price.  I love the flavor and the heat, though it does leave a bit of an onion aftertaste which is why I didn't give it higher marks on taste.  This of course is my opinion and others may not notice the onion at all.  I love the fact that it's a simple packet you add to a can of tomatoes, making it travel well and a great gift for any spicy food or salsa lover.  I'd recommend this to anyone that loves salsa and give it 4 stars overall.
